DS110DF111: CH B CDR Not Locked

Hello, I am using the DS110DF111 on a custom PCB design to support a 10G Ethernet application between Ethernet controller (Intel XL710) to SFP+. I cannot get the CDR to lock on CH B. For my set-up, I have a 10G SFP+ AOC cable between a test station that has an SFP+ port to the SFP+ port on the custom PCB. I used SigCon Architect for debugging and to write to registers (I had to mainly write to 0x1F for both CH A and CHB to invert the the polarity of the output signals).

Please see attached for register values reads from SigCon Architect GUI. Are there any recommendations on how I can proceed with my troubleshooting?

    I see register 0x60-0x63 are configured for a line rate of 10 Gbps. Is your application implementing 10 GbE? The line rate of 10 GbE is 10.3125 Gbps. DS110DF111 should support 10.3125 Gbps with default register settings.

  • Thanks for the reply. I had some issues with the test server fiber ports, but I believe that issue has been resolved. I can get the CDR to lock on both CH A and CH B. However, when I try to run an iperf3 network bandwidth/speed tests using TCP between custom PCB (which features the DS110DF111 retimers) and test server SFP+ ports, I am experiencing a high number of transmitted packets (server -> retimer), which I would interpret to mean loss packets and high bit error rate. Please see attached iperf3 results for reference. Are there any recommendations on retimer config settings to minimize transmission errors?

    I'm glad you were able to get CDR lock working. I'll need a bit more information about this new issue before I can share any recommendations.

    1. Are you able to measure BER within your system?
    2. Can you capture eye diagrams on both channels using the internal EOM to share with me? Please let me know if you need any help using the EOM.
    3. Can you capture a full register dump of both channels to share with me?
