TLK10232: Package Theta-JA and Theta-JC and Heatsinks

Part Number: TLK10232

Hi,

The 10232 datasheet states the OP temperature as -40°C to +85°C free air operating and maximum junction temperature of +105°C. What are the Theta-JC and Theta-JA for the package? Also, will heatsinking the package enable operation above +85°C?

Thanks, --Bill

  • Hi Bill,

Theta-JA and Psi-JT (thermal characterization, junction to top of case) are provided in Table 10-1 in the datasheet.

This excerpt from the app note Semiconductor and IC Package Thermal Metrics explains the difference between Psi-JT and Theta-JC.

It's safest to stay within the operating junction temperature and operating ambient temperature ranges. I can see a possibility of heatsinking enabling operation with ambient temperature >85C if junction temperature is still <105C, but I cannot guarantee this will be safe for device operation and reliability since validation testing was only performed over the specified operating temperature ranges.

    Best,

    Lucas

  • Hi Lucas,

Ugh... I totally missed table 10 in the datasheet, thank you for pointing that out.

Yes, that does answer my question, thank you.
