SN65DSI84: How to select the external crystal oscillator

Part Number: SN65DSI84

Hi team

We have a device with a LVSD connector that will connect to three types of LCD panel.

- The First type of LCD panel can work with the frequency in range of 60MHz to 75MHz;

- The Second type of LCD panel can work with the frequency in range of 60MHz to 87.5MHz;

- The third type of LCD panel can work with the frequency in range of 69.22MHz to 73.9MHz;

Currently the REFCLK pin is connected to a crystal oscillator that can generate 26MHz clock.

The REFCLK_MULTIPLIER is only support 1 ~ 3, so for 26MHz Ref clock, the REFCLK_MULTIPLIER  should be set to 3 that can closely match the LCD panel's frequency, and the actual frequency will be 78MHz, this frequency will exceed the some panel's max frequency(75MHz).

SO, if we want to support the three types panel with the external crystal oscillator ,  how can we  select the output clock of the external crystal oscillator ?

  • It seems you need a LVDS frequency between 69.22MHz and 73.9 MHz. A good number divisible by 2 is 72MHz. This means you can have a oscillator frequency of 36MHz which when multiplied by 2 will result in a LVDS frequency of 72MHz which fits the criteria for all your panels.
