DS90UB936-Q1: How to configure CSI datatype when paired with DS90UB913A

Tool/software:

We want to use UB936 to pair with cameras with DS90UB913A serializer and output YUV422 format CSI to downstream IC. Do we just configure both 0x70 and 0x71 data type to 0x1E if we don't know if the input is RAW10 or RAW12? Also, are ub954 and ub936 pin to pin direct replacement for each other in this kind of application? Thank you.

Helli Wei,

You can configure both regs to 0x1E if your data is YUV422 8-bit, but if using different format of YUV then this needs to be corrected.

Also, if the SER is using just 8-bits connection, then you should configure the DES reg 0x7C[7:6] to process the 8 upper or lower bits, based on the SER design.

Lastly, you need to configure DES reg 0x6D[1:0] to the right input mode, RAW10, RAW12 LF or RAW12 HF.

If I understand it correctly, ifwe don't know the input is RAW10 or RAW12, we just play with the values of 0x7C and 0x6D?

Also, about my other question, are ub954 and ub936 pin to pin direct replacement for each other in this case?

Hi Hamzeh,

A follow up question. If input is RAW10 or RAW12, will the image quality reduce significantly if the output use CSI YUV422 format? Thank you.

Hi Wei,

I never tested that, but I guess you may not be able to see any image, or you will see a distorted image on the screen.
