I get information from datasheet of TCA9548 that it can support Hot insertion.

1.Could you pls explain more detail how the TCA9548 support Hot insertion?

2. In the event the slave is communicating while removed,the I2C may be also locked-up,Right?

As long as the channel on with devices are being (un)plugged is not active, the bus is not disturbed.

Hi Lisa,

1. As Clemens said, the bus will not be disturbed as long as the channels are not active on the device that is be added/removed.

2. It is not recommended to remove the slave while it's channels are active.

Hi Justin:

For Question 1:

As we know, when device hot plug in/removed, it will cause voltage/current fluctuation,

what is the voltage/current can be sustained by the mux when device hot plug?

Or the mux just use its physical isolation between channels to achieve no impact on i2c bus when hot inserstion/remove,RIght?

The mux itself does not really care. But an active channel is directly connected to the rest of the bus, so hotplugging will also affect all other devices.
