DP83TG720S-Q1: PHY to PHY using RGMII

Part Number: DP83TG720S-Q1

Tool/software:

I'm designing a switching board with Ethernet switch KSZ9897R (Microchip).

I would like to connect RGMII of DP83TG720S-Q1 to RGMII (port 7) of KSZ9897R.

I'm understading that these 2 IC is the PHY, so I need to connect RX of DP83TG720S-Q1 to TX of KSZ9897 and vice versa.

But in DP83TG720S-Q1 datasheet, I couldn't find the information about using DP83TG720S-Q1 to connect to another Phy.

I wonder if I will encounter any problem with my design above, and Do you have any notes for future configuration?

  • Hello Edo,

To connect the RGMII port of hte microchip switch to our DP83TG720 PHY you should follow the RGMII standard pin mapping which is derived from the standard, you have this correct:

Connect RX of DP83TG720S-Q1 to TX of KSZ9897 and vice versa.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,
