SN65MLVD047APW MLVDS Driver & SN65MLVD204A MLVDS Receiver compatibility

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65MLVD204A, SN65MLVD047

My design uses a SN65MLVD047APW MLVDS Driver & SN65MLVD204A MLVDS Receiver.  8 receivers are attached to one driver.  We recently changed the receiver from a SN65MLVDS200A and want to be sure that the '204A (Type 2) is compatible with the '047 driver.  Can you please confirm this?

Also, can you clarify the meaing of the data sheet requirement (page 4) for D|Vyz| = -50mV min, 50mV max for the SN65MLVD047.  Is this the difference between the logic-high differential voltage and the logic-low differential voltage?

Thanks.

  • Hi Ralph,

The 204A (Type 2) receiver is compatible with the driver you are using. The main advantage to the Type 2 receiver is that is it optimized for data - it has better noise immunity and the receiver will detect a logic 0 when all drivers are disabled. The Type 1 receiver is optimized for clock signals with a symmetrical input threshold to improve duty cycle.

The data sheet requirement you mentioned for +/-50mV on the SN65MLVD047 refers to the difference between logic states. The larger range (480mV to 650mV) accounts for all variation over process, voltage, and temperature.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Matt,

    Thanks for your response.
