TUSB1002 / 5m cable transmission

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1002

Hi,

My customer would like to implement 5m cable transmission with USB3.1 Gen2.

They're considering to use the TUSB1002 as a re-driver.

Could you show me if you have information that 5m cable transmission is implemented by the TUSB1002 ?

Best Regards,

Kuramochi

  • Hello,

        5m is not a feasible cable for Gen2 applications, also we need to know more about the cable (gauge wire) , the Host you are using and the device you plan to use (is it a closed application).
     Please keep in mind that the TUSB1002 is capable to compensate up to 15dB of loss and has an output swing of 1.2V.

    Regards,

    Diego.

  • Hi Diego,

    May I ask if the following configuration and 5m active cable using three TUSB1002s will work? The cable itself has 7dB/m loss.

    Best regards,

    Masa

  • Hello Katayama-san,

    If this is for an active cable application I would recommend to use only one re-driver in the middle of the cable, due to the RX-Detection process we don't recommend to have two re-drivers in cascade. Also please confirm whether the loss is 7dB per meter (53dB total loss?)

    Regards,
    Diego.
  • Hi Diego,

    Thank you very much for your advice. I see only following configration can work. Correct?

    So cable length will not work for 5m if 7dB/m cable. What is maximum cable length can be estimated if assuming 7dB/meter cable loss?

    Best regards,

    Masa

  • Katayama-san,

        5m would be marginal but 4 meters should be fine.

    Regards,

    Diego.

  • Hi Diego,

    Thank you very much for your support. May I ask TUSB1002 configration setting for below paticuar case?

    Cable length X = 2m, Cable Loss X = 14dB

    Cable length Y = 2m, Cable Loss Y = 14dB

    Assuming Loss for USB3.1 Receptacle and TUSB1002 package = 2dB

    Questions : Below pin settings are correct?

    MODE = F (Dual)

    SLP_SO# = F

    CHx_EQ1 = R,  Chx_EQ2 = 1 (Maximum EQ setting)

    CFG1 = F, CFG2 = 1 (CH1=CH2=+1dB, Vod Linear Range=1200mV)

    Best regards,

    Masa

  • Hi Diego,

    May I have your answer?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Diego,

    I used the TUSB1002 EVM with the following setup:
    A)
    PC (type A)-----------USB3_1m------------(type B)EVM(type A)------------USB3_3m------------(micro B)camera
     ->stream video from camera to PC
    B)
    PC (type A)------------USB3_1m---------------(type B)EVM(type A) --(type A)USB3 thumb drive
    ->Detected usb 3 device

    Camera is a USB3 device.

    For setup A:
    1) I am unable to detect a USB3 device & cannot reset the EVM.
    2) when I connected directly from camera to PC using the 3 meter cable I am able to detected a USB3 device.

    I have tried almost all possible jumping setting:
    - EQ from 2.5dB to 15.1dB
    - mVpp from 900 to 1200
    It does not help.
    Can advice me what I need to do?

    For setup B:
    I am able to detect a usb 3 thumb drive and able to reset the EVM.

    Thank you.
