1) From the programmers guide, it seems that there is no way to generate a PRBS pattern without first having the receiver CDR locked (per register 1E). If this is the case you would always need an external BERT or other data source to use the PRBS generator function. Is this correct or is there a way to bypass the CDR and use the internal synthesizer as the PRBS generator clock source? Forcing lock via register 0x0A does not enable the PRBS output. The only way we were able to get the PRBS out was to connect an external BERT.
2) Following the procedures in the programming guide for setting up the generator / detector we were not able to get the automatic pattern detector (register 0x01) to detect the pattern from an external BERT. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
