TCA6424A: Topology question

Part Number: TCA6424A

Hello,

There are two I2Cs form FPGA of MB for redundant. The I/O ports of these two I2C expander are all connected together as below. Has any concern for below topology? Thank you.

  • Patrick,

This is generally OK, but you should be careful not to have more than one output active at any given time on a single net. If there are two or more outputs connected together driving opposite states, large currents will result. For this reason, it is best if the I/Os of the secondary expander are all configured as inputs until it is needed (e.g., in the event of the primary expander failing somehow).
