DP83630: similarity to DP86320?

HI Team,

I am planning to use DP83620 Ethernet PHY IC for my embedded application as a replacement of AM79C874 IC.
To test the functionality of DP83620 TI is providing a EVK kit.
There is another kit for DP83630 which appears to be identical (with more functionality) in terms of features and EVK boards design, I have also compared the available schematic and the only difference I found was certain pins in 620 are reserved while in 630 are used as GPIOs.

My query here is whether I can order the EVK kit for DP83630 for testing the functionality and later use DP83620 IC in my design??

    Hi ajayt,

    The DP83630 is a superset of the DP83620 functions. You can use the DP83630 EVK and then transition to the DP83620 IC.

    The DP83620 does NOT offer the IEEE 1588 PTP functions that the DP83630 does. Keep this in mind. Otherwise the parts are pin2pin compatible.
