Hi HSI team,

I have the following questions:

Can FPD-III be range extended
- How to work with the back channel?
  - Seems, it cannot be disabled by software
  - Is it in lower frequency range? Could it be filtered out?
  - Even better: Can it still be used in extended range? Need of additional bandwidth-limited buffer?
- Is 50m range possible with Cat6a? Gut feeling estimation is just fine J
Can you propose a suitable buffer (Tx) and equalizer (Rx) from the TI portfolio?
- Will DS25BR150/ DS25BR110 work? Need low-cost as we need have two lanes
What Cat-cable was used for the 15m FPD-III link? How is estimation for a higher quality cable (e.g. Cat x+1)
Any issues you can think of when running FPD-III at 170MHz PCLK and a 100BASE-TX on the same cable?

Hi Gerardo,
The range of FPD-III with backchannel cannot be extended using protocol agnostic equalizers or repeaters. These repeaters will only propagate signals in the forward direction.

It is acceptable for the application if the BC is not available as a 100BASE-TX link runs in parallel.

Is there a way to disable the BC?

Is the BC mandatory to establish the FPD-III link?

Hi Lars,

I would ask the question with a FPD-III set of part numbers. I don't support that product line directly. I think this can work for you by using the 100BASE-T link in parallel, but I am not sure. So I will close this issue for now so you can open this question in another thread.
