DS110DF410: Does the DS110DF410 support SAS support

Part Number: DS110DF410

Does the DS110DF410 support SAS-2?  If not does TI have a retimer (with CDR, not a repeater/redriver/equalizer) that does?

  • Hi Dallas,

To support SAS/SATA OOB and transition to high speed data rate, we really need to have a protocol aware device. Therefor a retimer by itself would not be able to handle this task. For signal conditioning purpose, redrivers or repeater have worked fine. As you noted, we have repeaters and redrivers and here is a link to different options for these parts:

Could you please let us know your application and as to why you need SATA/SAS retimers?

  • Thanks for the quick response.  My suspicion was that the OOB was the issue.

Our application is an embedded defense application between two units that are connected by a cable.  Each unit has a number of connectors and PCBs in the SAS path so we'd like something that can perform retiming to address the impedance mismatches/discontinuities and corresponding reflections internal to each unit.  Equalization addresses the cable issues, but not the impedance issues.

  • Transmission like mis-match/reflections could be problematic for retimers. DFE could try to handle reflection to some extend.

I think it would be a good idea if you can de-embed your trace/connectors s-parameter model and then use with IBIS-AMI model of the redrivers.

Do you have a block diagram that you can share with us? This should show insertion loss at each point.
