TVP5151: Color issue in PAL mode

Part Number: TVP5151

Hi Team,

The customer has below issue need your help.

Question:

TVP5151 uses PAL mode, the color is not normal in the color bar test.

The configuration method is to use example1 in the manual.
status register #1 0x88 ==> 0x6e
status register #2 0x89 ==> 0x18
status register #3 0x8a ==> 0x15
status register #4 0x8b ==> 0x20
status register #5 0x8c ==> 0x83

Thanks.

  • Hi Annie,

    I would like to note that TI does not recommend using these parts in a new design (NRND). Support for these devices is extremely limited as it is described in linked note:
    e2e.ti.com/.../622064

    However I suggest the customer to check the clock circuit whether matching to datasheet section 3.16 description:
    www.ti.com/.../tvp5151.pdf
    and Horizontal Sync Start Register settings.

  • What registers do you set? (note, only SCLK and data output enables should be required)

    What is connected to the digital outputs (i.e. how are you processing the demodulated video)?

    Are you able to try an NTSC source as a test (note, will probably require your back end to be re-programmed)?

    Have you verified that the digital output connection to your back end processor has sufficient setup/hold margin? (Capture eye diagrams for each data bit using the SCLK as a reference/trigger. Make the captures as close as possible to your back end processor input pins)

    Are you able to switch your display to monochrome (i.e. only display the luma channel)?

    What is your video source?

    Are you able to try different PAL sources?

    BR,

    Steve
