TUSB8044: dip switch configuration for standard use, without any 12c eeprom or smbus options

Goodmorning, if i want to avoid using the eeprom and any other smbus, i2c communication protocol, which is the I/O configuration to adopt?

I saw the evaluation board, but there are the dip switches on the board, and it is not specify in which configuration they should be. For example, for an individual port power control and a single port overcurrent input mode, which configuration should i use? it's not very clear on the documentation.

Hello,

The pin strap configurations are listed in the datasheet in section 6 "Pin Configurations and Functions". Not all settings are pin strap configurable, but for those that can be configured via pin strap, you can find the description in section 6 of the datasheet. I have linked the datasheet below for convenience.

Yes, i saw it, but for example for pin 42 it says that if SMbus is selected, then at the assertion of reset the state of the pin will determine a particular setting of the IC.

"If SMBus is selected, the value of the pin is sampled at the de-assertion of reset to set the power switch and over current detection mode as follows: 0= Individual port power control supported. 1= Ganged port Power control supported"

but after the reset the pin will be an output for another state:

"When enabled, a value of 1 indicates the upstream port is connected to a High-speed USB capable port."

So is it normal to drive it low or high also when it's an output, after the reset?

Hello,

If you do not set the bit stsOutputEn via SMBUS, it will not function as an output. It should only function as an input with the function based on if I2C or SMBUS is enabled, which is set by pin 39, SMBUSz/SS_SUSPEND.

ok, i think i get it. so for example, if i enable smbus and after the deassertion of reset pin42 = 0, then the individual port control is enebled.

Since i don't use the smbus, i don't set the stsoutputen pin, so after the reset anyway it will not function as an output, right?

Correct. The pin will not function as an output unless the stsOutputEn bit is set.
