TUSB1002: Can TUSB1002 support 7M cable?

Part Number: TUSB1002
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB522P,

Hi Team,

Customer would like to support USB3.0 distance upto 7 meter, can TUSB1002 USB re-driver support 7 meter cable distance?

Is it possible customer add re-driver at the middle of cable?

Thanks & Regards

Eddie

  • Hi,

Could you estimate the insertion loss in dB per meter (at 2.5GHz)? also are you targeting 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps? In long active cable applications the re-driver should be placed in the middle of the cable. 7m application may not be feasible depending on cable losses but 4m cable may be more achievable.

  • Hi TI team member,

I use the cable insertion loss 1.8dB per meter at 2.5GHz and targeting at 5Gbps.

If it is not feasible for redriver placed in the middle of  7m cable. Does it have any other possible solution for 7m cable in USB 3.0?

This question bother me for a while, I really hope a solution could be found out.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

I will recommend using TUSB522P which can compensate for losses on both the pre-channel and post-channel through the use of equalization and De-emphasis. Placing either TUSB1002A or TUSB522P in the middle of the cable is possible. You should target to have total loss similar to the USB 3.0 compliance cable.
