TPS66121: Asking for the TPS66121 design questions

Part Number: TPS66121

Hi Team,

Would you please help me for the following questions?

1. In dead battery mode S1 is alway keep open, right?

2. Need you explain more in this power up sequence. Vin is power up but from the schematic, Vin is connected to ground.

3. Any concern, if we used VLDO 5V to supply PD controller Vcc but no battery in our system.

BR,

SHH

  • HI SHH,

As you know TPS66121 is a sink-only device (as opposed to TPS6602X which is source and sink). Therefore the power path will be from VBUS to PPHV. In this condition the TPS66121 device will get power from VBUS and (if VIN is not present, meaning is grounded) the internal LDO will power on the internal logic. That is why you see VIN grounded in the example schematics.

However this scheme may burn some extra power in the internal LDO and that is why the VIN option is there, it can be connected -optionally- to a 5V rail and when VBUS provides power the LDO will still be disabled and the internal logic will be powered from VIN.

SO in summary VIN is optional.

    Regards,

    Jose
