ONET4201LD: ONET4201LD: About Input Voltage

Part Number: ONET4201LD
In the data sheet, the differential input signal is 200 mVpp or more, but if I input a signal of 200 mVpp or less, will the output of MOD-/MOD + stop?
Or, the value of the output voltage is not guaranteed, but will some voltage be output?
  • Greetings,

Please note device has not been characterized under this condition and operation is not guaranteed.

If MOD+/- is kept floating, following things can happen:

    1)      Vod will be much higher. (2x)

    2)      All the bias/modulation current now flows through the driver

In the long term, the following may happen:

    (1)    Will likely cause the transistor in the driver stage to operate in non-ideal region, causing more jitter. But who cares

    (2)    Over a long period of time may cause EM(Electro Migration) issues in active termination. Depends on the margin.

Also note that power dissipated by the device (heating) will be higher now since there is no external component.

    Regards,, Nasser
