As we know, at high speed line there only add ESD diode to protection ESD events.

What about short circuit protection for high speed line?

Questions :

Q1 : Is there need to add protection circuit to protect short circuit protection for high speed line ? (Example : To protect VBUS short to signal line.)

Q2 : If there don’t need add short circuit protection circuit, is it means short circuit protection only be protected by hardware structure ?

This depends on the system and risk to short circuit to the system. We have solutions at TI that protect from short to VBUS including the TPD6S300, TPD2S300 that also provide ESD protection on some of the lines, this would be a good options if the short to VBUS is a requirement on the D+/- and CC line. However, for the superspeed lines the addition of Short circuit protection has impact to the bandwidth and so most systems do not add short circuit protection to these lines.
