TCAN1043HG-Q1: CAN transceiver

Hello Team,

We are looking for the automotive grade of CAN transceiver, from TI web portal found part TCAN1043HG-Q1 which looks meeting requirement. Only we needs to confirm the support of standard SAE J1939, SAE 2284-4, CiA 602-2. I have checked datasheet it is not mentioning details for these.

Please confirm the support of mentioned standard for TCAN1043HG-Q1.

Since TCAN1043HG-Q1 is a transceiver that supports the physical layer of the CAN specification. SAE J1939 and SAE 2284-4 are both CAN application layer protocols that reference the ISO11898-2:2016 for the physical layer support of their protocol definitions. Since the TCAN1043HG-Q1 is compliant with the ISO11898-2:2016 specification, it will support both SAE specifications. And CiA 602-2 is just the mapping of CAN FD to the SAE J1939 application layer, so the physical layer is still referenced to ISO11898-2:2016.

Hello Eric Hackett,

Thanks for the quick update.

Also required confirmation for the support of CAN2.0B and hot plug capability. Datasheet mentioning it is hot plug capable, so is there any other circuit required to support Hot plug capability or IC itself can handle it?

Nimesh,

Since there is no power sequencing and there are under voltage thresholds to keep the device in a known state even when the voltage rails aren't present, there is no external circuitry needed for this device to be hot-plugged into an application.

What about support of CAN2.0B. We thought as IC supporting CAN-FD then it also supporting CAN2.0B. Please confirm.

Yes, our CAN transceivers support classical CAN and thus also support CAN2.0B. Thank you for your patience on these questions.

Hello Eric Hackett,

Thanks for the information. We know CAN transceiver support CAN FD speed up to 5 Mbps, but to make double sure can it support lower speed to 250Kbps, 500Kbps also?

As shown in section 10.3.7.1 of the datasheet, the minimum data rate is 9.2 kbps.

Hello Eric/Clemens,

Can you please provide any documentation which can describe the all support physical layer requirement for ISO11898 and SAE 2284-4 for TCAN1043HG-Q1?

We got input from end customer that there is some physical layer requirement also related to SAE 2284-4 transceiver, which should be fulfilled by TCAN1043HG-Q1.
