SN65LVDS051-Q1: Short-Circuit Output Current functionality

Part Number: SN65LVDS051-Q1

Hello,

I have a situation where one or both outputs (i.e., Y and/or Z) of one of the driver circuits of this IC were inadvertently shorted to ground.  My interpretation of the datasheet is that the output current on those pins would be limited to 10mA and thus the part would not sustain any damage, but now I'm not so sure.

Is the 10mA max a limit enforced by the IC as a protective measure, or is there something I'm missing and the IC is indeed prone to damage in this situation?

Other than the inadvertent short to ground, recommended operating conditions were otherwise utilized.

Thanks,

John
