TUSB216: Inquiry about compatibility with TUSB214

Part Number: TUSB216
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB214,

Hi, Support Team

A customer is developing a product using the TUSB214.

Currently, TUSB214 is being used by utilizing I2C Control.

For DC BOOST setting, I2C Register is being used in Disable status as shown below.

Please confirm the inquiries below.

1. Is the TUSB214 and TUSB216 100% compatible in hardware?

2. Is the TUSB214 and TUSB216 100% compatible with software?

-Whether the I2C Address is the same (It appears to be the same when comparing datasheets.)

-Setting register such as AC Boost and DC Boost setting, setting stage, level is the same

-Can TUSB216 disable DC Boost through I2C like TUSB214?

3. Based on TUSB216, Pin No. 11 is CDP_ENZ (CDP Enable), and when it is low, CDP operation is shown. What does it do if it is in a floating state?

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hi MJ,

While the TUSB214 and TUSB216/I are similar devices in terms of pin out and operation, their operation is not 100% identical.

In terms of hardware settings, the TUSB214 has DC_BOOST and EQ, where the TUSB216/I has a combined AC/DC_BOOST and RX_SEN settings.  In addition, the VREG pin in replaced by CDP_ENZ.

The registers are also different between the two devices.  Setting or clearing bit 3 in register Eh does not disable DC boost in the TUSB216/I device.

CDP_ENz has an internal pullup, if t is left floating it will be disabled.

    Regards,

    JMMN
