    Ian,

    the figure1 is used for low back channel data rate, such as UB933/ub934/UB964 link, figure2 is designed for higher FC/BC rate such as ub953/954 combo.

    for your design, pls check the link FC and BC rate setting (this can be set based on your system design through the reg.), if the BC is over 25Mbps, figure2 is better.
