TUSB1046EVM: 5K 60Hz video output

Part Number: TUSB1046EVM

Hello,

I tried to display 5K video on the display with USB Alt DP using TUSB1046EVM, but it doesn't work.
The details are as follows. Can you guess what is the cause?

INPUT: 5K60Hz video, DP1.4 (output from PC)
OUTPUT: USB Alt DP (input to display under development)

■ Occurrence phenomenon

◇The display has no screen display *The Display I am using is for 5K only, which may be the cause

◇On the PC setting screen, FHD output is displayed

◇Resolution change not accepted from PC

Is it possible to output 5K60Hz video as the performance of this evaluation board?
If possible, why do you think this is happening?

  • Hi,

For 5k@60Hz, what is the actual resolution you are trying to support?

Do you have a USB Type-C protocol analyzer that can decode both the USB Type-C PD and DP link training protocol? On the Type-C PD protocol, please make sure both sides entering into the DP Alt Mode. Since you are implementing 5k, please make sure both sides implement Assignment C so all four lanes are DP lanes in order to support the 5k bandwidth. You can also check the TUSB1046 CTL0 and CTL1 and make sure CTL0 = 0 and CTL1 = 1 for DP 4 lane operation in the GPIO mode, or CTLSEL[1:0] = 0x10 in the I2C mode. On the DP link training protocol, please make sure the source and sink are able to complete the link training for the 5k resolution.

On the hardware side, please check and make sure HPD is high. Using a multimeter, please check and make sure AUXP and SBU1 common mode voltage is between 0 and 0.4V, and AUXN and SBU2 common mode voltage is between 2.7 and 3.6V.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

    >>For 5k@60Hz, what is the actual resolution you are trying to support?

    Resolution: 5120 x 2560 @ 10bit
    Frequency: 60Hz (max120Hz)
    Bandwidth: 8.1 Gbps x 4 lanes

Is it possible to pass this video?

I don't have a Type C protocol analyzer. Can you tell me if you know a cheap and useful analyzer?
Also, since the test environment has disappeared now, we will check the voltage etc. at a later date.
I would be grateful if you could answer only the above questions.

  • Hi,

The TUSB1046 will support DP 8.1Gbps across 4 lanes.

The issue could be that either Type-C not negotiating the Assignment C to enable all four lanes, or the TUSB1046 DPEQ is not setting correctly to compensate for the loss between the source and the TUSB1046, causing a signal degradation at 8.1G.

    Thanks

    David
