SN74BCT8244A: Is this the latest and greatest to recommend for IEEE 1149.1 JTAG buffering?

Hi everyone,

I tried searching this question and didn't find anything before posting. Is the SN74BCT8244A device the best device to recommend for my customer who wants to buffer IEEE 1149.1 JTAG signals? I can see it is active, but also can see that it is 30+ years old and will be used in an application that runs 8+ years.

I just found out that my customer is specifically looking for a 3.3V supply device, and the SN74BCT8244A is 5V.

Hey John,

If they're just buffering a JTAG signal, any buffer will do. For example, SN74LVC3G17 would work great in most circumstances.

The SN74BCT8244A has a boundary scan register in it -- ie it is designed to be verified in system via JTAG.
