SN74LV1T34: 5v5 tolerant input on this part?

Part Number: SN74LV1T34
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC1G34, SN74AHC1G125

Hello

Short question. I just want to confirm.

In the first page of DS "5v tolerant inputs"

at page 6/24 "Recommended operating Conditions"

max 5.5v input and Vcc.

I would like to use this device to translate 5.5v logic signal to 3.3v. From my understanding it is ok, in my design the device will have VCC=3.3v and the input at pin2 will be up to 5.5v.

Any drawbacks when input signal is 5.5v ?

Will rise/fall time be affected? If still in nS range it is not any problem in this design,

Thank you for your help!

  • This will work. The electrical characteristics are guaranteed as long as you stay inside the recommended operating conditions.

For downtranslation, you can also use any buffer with overvoltage-tolerant input, i.e., SN74AHC1G125/126, SN74LVC1G34/17/125/126.
