TXB0108: is each channel independent?

Part Number: TXB0108
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXV0108

Hello,

I have a question about the TXB0108. In this auto direction level translator, are the directions of each channel independent? I am wondering if some channels can transfer data from A to B while other channels are simultaneously transferring data in opposite direction (from B to A)?

I appreciate your help with this.

Best Regards,
John Albrecht

  • Hi John,

Yes, you may send signals from either side i.e. each channels can send and/or receive simultaneously.

However, please note that the device is made weak for drivers to overdrive each side as needed (see section 8 of the datasheet).

If the simultaneous use of each channels are not needed, i.e. one ch is for A to B and another for B to A (not one ch used for both directions), please see fixed directional devices / direction control devices such as TXV0108 for example, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thank you for clarifying this!

I have one more question, can the TXB0108 be used for bidirectional voltage level translation between 1.2V & 3.3V and also between 1.8V & 3.3V (without a direction control pin)? I read over the datasheet and it looks like it is supported, but I want to double check.

If it can't, do you have any suggestions?

  • Hi John,

Yes TXB supports the mentioned voltages of interest, similar to the below recommended conditions:

    Hence, A-ports would be similar to VCCA and B-ports similar to VCCB i.e for example, the 1.2 V & 3.3 V translation - if VCCA is 1.2 V and VCCB is 3.3 V, A-ports tracks VCCA for the 1.2 V and B-ports tracks VCCB for the 3.3 V. Hence, the bidirectional 1.2 V & 3.3 V translation.

    The same holds for the 1.8 V & 3.3 V translation, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
