SN74LVT1624 sink current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVT16244B

Hi

Iam currently driving the 16 to 20 LED's thru this buffer, controlling thru Micro-controller. Microcontroller GPIO pins are connected to below buffer and output of the buffer driving the LED's. the each LED which are using consumes 40mA to 50mA of current.

http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/sn74lvt16244b.pdf

I would like to know the buffer will drive 64mA per pin? i confused with the datasheet, 64mA of current indicated in the datasheet but if i use all 16 pins, the buffer will drive all LED's? so 64mAx16=1024mA i can assume?.

is it my understanding is correct? please give me your thoughts on this.

Regards

Anil

  • Each output can drive 64ma or more. If you have all outputs driving max current then the part will get hot. How hot it can get depends somewhat on the package. I know I have seen these parts driving 500-600ma without cooling. Whether it effects life or not i dont know.

Some type of cooling system should be used.

LVT is set up to drive a lot of current by plus multple VCC's and gnds.
