CD74HC123: CD74HC123 Application question

Part Number: CD74HC123

Hi team,

I have a question about CD74HC123, in our datasheet, the Pin 14 was not connected to 1CX but not GND. However, in our competitor's application example, this PIn usually connected to GND. Can you help check:

1. If Pin 14 can be connected to GND?

2. If yes, when need connect to GND and when need to connect to 1Cx like in our datasheet?

3. If not, why competitor can connect this Pin to GND?

Thanks a lot for your support!

Best regards,

Sulyn

  • Hello Sulyn,

The question you should ask is,"Why must our competitor connect pin 14 to ground?"  I don't know the answer since I do not work for them, however in TI's device you don't have to ground pin 14, but you can.

Note that in our datasheet and competitor datasheets, pin 14 is always connected to the external timing capacitor.

Pin 14 of the CD74HC123 is internally connected to ground.  Externally it can be connected to ground or not; either way will not affect operation of the device.
