SN74LVC16T245: Device failed at -40C

Hi Team,

We would like to ask your help regarding the issue with SN74LVC16T245DGG at -40C. Here are the details from our customer.

The chip SN74LVC16T245DGG in the datasheet is written transition temperature -40 to +150 in the table of absolute values. And this temperature led to a reduction in the service life of the chip, but the table of recommended values indicates that it can work in -40. Can it be used at a temperature of -40 degrees Celsius with a power supply voltage of 5 volts to 3.3 volts?

After the device was exposed to a temperature of -40 degrees, after a while it failed under normal conditions. One of their exits was breaking through

The ratio is somewhere 7 out of 10 were failed. The status is mass production.

But at a temperature of -35 this is not observed.

    At -40C this device should be working with the power supplies at 5 and 3.3V. This mass failure is interesting. My understanding is that the device returns back to normal behavior after being removed from the -40 environment. Is this correct?
    Do you have any scopes of the outputs of the failing pins in these conditions? Something showing the waveform of the I/O's with /OE and DIR pins together? 
    Further, I'm not sure I follow what you mean by "One of their exits was breaking through". In the notes in the schematic it seems that nothing is at the output of the failing pins so I'm seeing a contradiction in these two statements. It'd help if you could clear that up a bit for me.

  • Good time of day!!! The device is located at a temperature of -40 degrees. It works stably, go with the climate control...and about 250 hours later, one of the outputs on the chip fails.

    As I mentioned above, if you could provide more information about the type of failure or what you're actually seeing or not seeing it would help me better assess the issue.
