The Two Phase Embedded Metering Firmware Upgrade reference design shows the communication of multiple devices performed over I2C and finally connected to host using a I2C to RS232 converter.

However there is not an explicit I2C signal we can see there ? could you point as which of the MCU signals SDA and SCL are configured as I2C , is this P1.6 & P1.7 configured as I2c and all boards connected together on this I2C bus and then goes to host ?

Hello,

I would recommend referring to the reference design's schematic. In the upper right hand side, you'll see P1.6 and P1.7 that can be used for I2C functionality. Resistors R32 and R33 are open but should be populated with pull-up resistors (e.g 4.7kOhm) to VCC if the I2C functionality is required.

Ok , even if I2C can all be connected it is still not clear how the I2C to PC serial interface board gets interfaced . The I2C has SDA and SCL signals get connected to the RF1 connctor as SIMO and SOMI @ Pins 18 & 20.

However the RS232 UART signal is connected to the Pins 7 & 9 of this RF1 connector, hence its not clear how the 'RS232 to I2C Host Commander' coverts these I2c to host when the board is not physically connected to the I2C interface ???

Hello,

I see what you're saying, and I agree with you. Perhaps a different board was used for the testing and the UART-to-RS232 isolated serial adapter board was used in the images as a placeholder. Assuming that this code supports I2C, you could connect the I2C interfaces on the EVMs through an isolator board (something like the MSP-ISO) to a logic analyzer or host MCU.

In the meantime, I'll pass along your feedback and see if we can't update this.
