Hall sensor startup then change to InstaSPIN-FOC control using TMS320F28027F?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28027F, MOTORWARE, DRV8301-69M-KIT

Hi Everybody,

I'm fairly new to motor control and I’d really appreciate anybody’s help with a few questions.

We have a prototype inverter controller with the TMS320F28027F using InstaSPIN-FOC.  The controller is working well but we would also like to use it in a product that requires better motor startup control.  For this product the motor needs to move in only one direction when starting, be capable of a rapid high torque start, and respond to rapid torque changes and stalls well.  We are considering adding Hall sensors to our motor since these are relatively inexpensive and would probably work well.

We’d like to continue using InstaSPIN-FOC with the TMS320F28027F if we can.  We also don’t have much time in our project for the additional product.  We are considering adding a closed-loop, Hall sensor start, and then transitioning to InstaSPIN-FOC control.  One option for the transition might be a flying-start, but the example I’ve seen for a flying-start has an initial Iq=0.  Does anyone know whether a flying-start can be done with a torque load?

Does anyone have any thoughts about whether there is another way to transition to InstaSPIN-FOC after startup, for instance, can the approach taken in labs 12a and 12b be used with InstaSPIN-FOC, or will we will need InstaSPIN-MOTION for the performance we want?

Does anyone have any suggestions for another approach we could take for this?

Thanks in advance for any help with this.  Please let me know if something isn’t clear about my questions or if you want more information.
