F28M36P63C2: F28M36x controlCARD R1.1 Chip replacement, C28 DSP is bricked

Part Number: F28M36P63C2

Hello

I have a F28M36x controlCARD R1.1, with a F28M36P63C2ZWTT chip.

I have bricked the chip (C28 part), not sure how, but i cannot flash program it anymore. I have searched a lot of threads regarding the subject, and other people have had similar unresolveable issues.

Is it possible to replace only the F28M36P63C2ZWTT chip, since the rest of the board is fine? Can that be done okay and fairly easily?

Regards Niels

  • Niels,

It is definitely *possible*. “Fairly easily” is very subjective. This is a 289-Ball Fine Pitch Ball Grid Array package. While removal from the PCB is relatively easy, soldering the replacement device is harder and calls for considerable soldering expertise. If you have access to the resources (surface-mount soldering workstation and a technician highly skilled in removal/replacement of fine-pitch BGA parts), this is doable. You need to weigh in the cost of the replacement part plus the labor cost for removal/replacement and then make a call.

Thank you for your answer. I will look into it.
