MSP430FR2155: Error Initializing Emulator: Interface Communication Error

Part Number: MSP430FR2155
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, MSP-EXP430FR2355, MSP430FR2355

Hii,

i was using MSP430FR2155 Controller, when i was trying the flash the code below mentioned two errors are coming,

1.Error Initializing Emulator : Interface Communication Error

2.Error Connecting to the target : unknown Device

Kindly help us to resolve the error, we are sung MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool.

Below mentioned points we tried to resolve:

1.we have Uninstalled and Installed Code Composer studio 10.3.1 Software

2.we have Uninstalled and Installed Drivers for Emulator

3.We have checked the Hardware connections and they are correct

4.we have tried to flash the two custom boards with same emulator, even same error was observing.

  • Hello,

Make sure the !RST pin isn't being controlled by something other than the MSP-FET. I've experienced this error when I had something else connected to !RST, which was driving the pin low continuously.

  • Hi james,

Please find the Below image,as per that we have isolated, even though, the same error is observing.

we have tried to connected with respect toJTAG,with that also the same error  is observed.

  • Hello,

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your last reply. I'm assuming you're saying that R7 was removed and issue still existed. That's a good step.

    Next, I have two suggestions:

    • You're using a custom board. Thus, you probably don't have the large 14-pin connector for the MSP-FET connection that you'd find on one of our target boards. Double-check your physical connections from your board to the MSP-FET. A wrong connection can cause this error.
    • Compare your JTAG circuit to the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide. See the Signal Connections for In-System Programming and Debugging section for more details and diagrams. Also, a good reference would be the schematic for the MSP-EXP430FR2355 LaunchPad, found in the MSP430FR2355 LaunchPad Development Kit (MSP-EXP430FR2355) User's Guide.
  • Hi,

1.We have Checked all Physical Connections, they are ok.

2.As per given in the MSP430FR2355 User guide,we have connected and checked even though Error is observed(Error Connecting to the target : unknown Device).

  • Have you measured VCC to see if the device is getting powered up? Since you’ve checked all your connections, I’m not sure what else to recommend at the moment. I do know that if I take one of our target boards and a MSP-FET and try to program the device, it will work. Perhaps the devices have been damaged on your custom board.

One thing that’s always good to do in these situations is to start dividing up the tool chain. For example, purchase a target board or EVM that allows you to verify that the MSP-FET works. If that works, try removing the device from your custom board and place it in the target board’s socket. If that works, it would indicate a connection or hardware issue with your custom board.

  • Hi James,

1.We have purchased new emulator with the help of it we are able to flash to microcontroller , kindly provide any debugging guide to resolve the not working emulator.

2.we are using P1.4,P1.5,P1.6,P1.7 pins as SPI interface to communicate with PLL,we are observing SPI clock frequency as 44Hz , we want SPI clock need to work at 5MHz or 8MHz.we are not using any SPI driver and using as GPIO pins.kindly suggest any solution to increase speed of SPI clock.
