I have an MSP-FET that I have been using for some time, but it has recently stopped working. When attempting to program a microcontroller through Code Composer Studio, I receive the following error: "Error initializing emulator: Interface Communication error".
I was able to borrow another MSP-FET from a colleague which worked immediately with no issues. The PC, USB cable, FET ribbon cable, target board (MSP-EXP430FR5969) and software (blink.c) were all kept the same, so I am certain that the error is with the MSP-FET itself. I have tried performing a HID cold boot as per the MSP Debuggers User's Guide which allowed me to successfully re-flash the device firmware, but it still presents the same error message. I have also confirmed that this is the same firmware that is loaded on the working device.
Are there any further steps I can take to identify the source of the error and hopefully recover the device? I would obviously prefer to recover my existing FET rather than purchasing a new one if at all possible. If any further info is required please let me know.
Hello Jack,
Check out section 5.6.5.3 MSP-FET HID Cold Boot in MSP Debugger's User Guide for a way to recover your MSP-FET.
Hi Jace,
Thanks for the reply. However, as noted in my original question, I have already performed a HID cold boot with no success.
Hello Jack,
The HID cold button is the only real course of recovery available for the MSP-FET. You can try a different development environment that will try to re-download the latest (to that environment) FW to the MSP-FET. Try a new project in CCS Cloud
Unfortunately I have not had any success using either different environments or CCS Cloud. It seems the FET may be unrecoverable, unless anyone has any other suggestions.
