MSP432P401R: Cannot connect to target after loading wrong code

Hi,

After loading a piece of code on the target (MSP432P401R), I can't connect to it anymore. This board was working perfectly with another set of code. Both JTAG emulators I own (XDS110 or Segger J-Link) give me the same target connection error. The code I loaded was an almost empty piece of code with just the minimum board config (like the clock) and a few pins defined for testing the UART module.

I tried the "Factory Reset Without Password" steps from doc SLAU575K (Code Composer Studio IDE for SimpleLink MSP432 Microcontrollers), but this doesn't work either, it fails at the "Connect Target" step. After that I can't execute any GEL script since I'm not connected to the target. I tried with both JTAG or SWD options for the target configuration.

Before I start replacing the MSP432 chip on this board, can anyone think of any other steps I can perform to unlock this chip?

I don't have a copy of SLAU575K (and it seems to have been "disappeared" from ti.com). When I get myself in trouble, usually by goofing up the clock registers, I use the procedure in Launchpad UG (SLAU597F) Sec 5, if you have one of those. (Maybe they're the same but I can't check.)

The critical step (which is I think where you are) is to "Connect to Target" to the DAP ("non-debuggable"), not the MCU core. In this state, you can talk to the DAP and the DAP can (sort of) talk to the CPU, but the end-to-end is blocked. But one of the things that the DAP can do is Mass Erase, which is your goal.

Thanks for the reply. Instructions in section 5 of SLAU597F are the same as what I saw in SLAU575K. When I click on "Show all cores", I wasn't able to see any DAP, I only saw the MCU and the "Connect Target" step didn't succeed. Anything specific I need to double-check in order to see the DAP?

So "Show All Cores" doesn't show a "Non-Debuggable Devices" entry? I just tried a few variants, and I didn't find a way for that to Not show up.

I suppose it could be something in the .ccxml. (Also, I'm running CCS v9.) Maybe create a new project (with "empty" main.c) and see if that .ccxml acts differently.
