Hello TI team,
We are using MSP430-FR6047 in our device and. we wanted to know about why TI has suggested to use 8MHz Resonator instead of 8MHz Crystal for USS.
we have always doubt whether to go with Resonator or with Crystal.
Please clear our doubt.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Vinayak,
I assume this is a water application. Depending on the operating range, the resonator provides sufficient stability and is lower cost than crystal. If you need stability over wider operating temperatures, then a crystal will be more accurate.
Here is a similar posting that might help ->https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp-low-power-microcontrollers-group/msp430/f/msp-low-power-microcontroller-forum/1052663/msp430fr6047-ceramic-resonator-clock-accuracy
Also, there is a feature in the library to use the LFXT 32KHz to calibrate the resonator over time and temperature. This is described in the Ultrasonic Water Meter reference design, table-2 on page 15.
