MSP430F2001: MSP430F2001

Part Number: MSP430F2001

Hi

New to this forum....

Have a MSP430F2001 connected as a 2-Wire JTAG Communication (Spy-Bi-Wire)  to a MSP-FET430UIF and using the CCS  Version: 11.2.0.00007.

From CCS get the error :

Error connecting to the target:
Unknown device

The debugger Power LED on and the Mode LED flickers until the error appears then is solid until cancel is pressed.

Have cheked the wiring - all OK

MSP430F2001is know to be good as programmed using windoows XP and Flash programmer.

Running CCS  Version: 11.2.0.00007 on Windows 10 - can see the Debuger in device drivers -

Is their a particular driver which need to be intalled ?

Any recommdations on getting this Debug I/F working ?

Thanks

  • Just to add...

    MSP-FET430UIF and using the CCS  Version: 11.2.0.00007  works O/K as a 4 wire connection to a MSP-FET430UIF.

So is it to do with it been a 2 wire for MSP430F2001 ?

    Tnaks

  • Hi John,

I don't think it's a driver issue since you are able to get it to work with 4 wire.

How are you powering the device? Does you system match the reference schematic from the MSP430 HW Tools document (shown below)?

    Regards,

    Evan

  • Hi Evan,

Have checked the wiring as in the sechmatic and it as expected.

Have tried it with both PCB power and Bebugger power - both are 3v3 and unfortunately both give the same error message.

Just to note Iam using the simples of program to test this setup - LED blink

P1.0 on our PCb has a LED connected to ground - so should blink ?

    Thanks

    John

  • When using FET power: How much current does your system require. MSPFET can only supply 100mA.

When using target power: did you connect VCC_TARGET to you systems 3v3 rail?

Do you have a launchpad? If so, try connecting the MSPFET to the launchpad to see if your FET works with that. More details in MSP Debuggers document:

  • Thank Evan,

Great idea but, unfortunately I don't have a Lauchpad I can use, Also looks like they are all out of stock :(

Have progresed a bit further but are coming to the conclusion that the MSP-FET430UIF debugger is the route of my problem.

Using windows XP can connect to the see the device and flash program new code - all OK.

After this was completed, move over to Windows 10 PC with the MSP-FET430UIF  connected as a 4wire JTAG and external 3v3 power as below:-

Can see the MSP430 using both the Flash and CCS

But unfortunatelly as soon as I reprogram the device I can nolonger regain connection to the device.

Basically believe that the version of MSP-FET430UIF debugger I have is not supported by Windows10 ?

Is it possible to update the F/W in the MSP-FET430UIF debugger to support windows 10 ?

    Thanks

    John

  • Hi John,

Can you make sure that the cable is 20cm or less and you have a 1nF (1000pF) cap on the target reset line? Having a longer cable can sometimes cause an issue.

Also the MSP-FET430UIF is not really recommended anymore, therefore there may be issues with the fact that you are using a newer CCS. Any chance you can try on older CCS version?

    regards,

    Henok
