MSP430F5438A-EP: sing the MSP430F5438A-EP microcontroller component whose temperature range is between -55 and 125 degrees Celsius

Part Number: MSP430F5438A-EP

Using the MSP430F5438A-EP microcontroller component whose temperature range is between -55 and 125 degrees Celsius
In our project there is an external OSC XO 25.0000MHZ LVCMOS component that connects to the input of pin 89 XT2IN,the microcontroller works partially in each circuit in a different way, we saw that if we put a 33pf capacitor at the output of the osc it functions well again,

but when tested with a temperature of -10 degrees it turns off Completely and not working at all, does the external osc have an effect, what happens in the registers according to slau390f if XT2 Fault Detection,

have you encountered a similar problem that happened with this microcontroller MSP430F5438A-EP

  • Hello Udi,

It sounds like the external xtal is having issues oscillating at the lower temps. Check the temp range for your oscillator and load caps. Also be mindful of the layout and proper values for the loading caps. See the following application note for more details and tests you can perform at temp to determine how robust the circuit + layout is. Although it was written for LF Xtals, the same principles apply to HF Xtals. www.ti.com/lit/slaa322

As for the MSP430, you will get an XT2 Fault flag if the xtal stops oscillating correctly. This can stop operation of not handled correctly.
