MSP430F2011: Higher pin count part?

Hello...

I currently am using an F2011 in a product. Moving forward into production we would like to add 2-4 more general I/O (with interrupt capability). Can someone point me to the best cost solution for this that has Spy-Bi wire? I initially wanted to keep it in the MSP430F2xx family due to ease of porting the current code. I thought the F2111, F2121 or F2131 would be a great solution BUT I see these products do NOT support Spy-Bi wire. Why is this??? Seems silly that this convenient feature would not be part of all MSPs.....

F2xx is older family while SBW is newer interface. All MSP430G2xx are with SBW. You can find identical part from both F2xx and G2xx, that will execute same binary without any issues.

Hi Steve,

As Zrno said you can checkout the MSP430G2xx series.

How many of the comparator channels are you using? There's also devices in the FRAM series such as MSP430FR2111 that have Spy-bi-wire and higher pin-count package options.

I am familiar with the FR .....G not so much....Does anybody see an advantage with ease of porting code?....I only need a few extra I/O with IRQ ...no comparator, etc...

I always thought G parts were legacy and I've avoided them...Is the G a different technology than the F (SRAM, etc...)?

Hi Steve,

As Zrno indicate, the G2xx series and F2xx series are very compatible. The G devices are essentially just cost-optimized versions of certain F devices.

But when I hear cost optimized that tells me things were cut or changed so as to create a lower cost....The features all look the same...Is the G part a Flash based like the F or is it an OTP? I am really trying to understand what does cost optimize mean here???

Hi Steve,

Yes these are still Flash devices, but you may see less memory, fewer channels for certain peripherals (hence my question about the comps), and other removed features when comparing to the equivalent F2xx device. That's all that is meant by cost optimized.
