MSP430F5418: Write/read BSL memory of MSP430F5418 at run time

Hi TI,

We are using the micro controller "MSP430F5418" in one of our products in the field. it is non-A version.

we are trying to make some improvements where we want to store the debug information in the BSL memory(Boot strap loader of the flash) . Our application doesnot need any boot loader.

and we want to store debug info at run time in any non-volatile memory. we have completely used INFORMATION Memory of 512 bytes.

please let us know if we can write and read any data in the BSL memory at run time.

if we can write to BSL, is the write process similar to writing data in information memory?

Yes, it is same. They are both the flash memory. But the segment size is different.

Hi Eason Zhou,

could you please confirm if user allowed to write/read BSL memory of MSP430F5418. because in data sheet("SLAS612A–DECEMBER 9 2008–REVISED JANUARY 2009") its mentioned user is not allowed to modify.

I would suggest to refer to the Errata:https://www.ti.com/lit/er/slaz279aa/slaz279aa.pdf

It seems that the BSL can't work with NON A version, but for saving customized data I think it is OK.

Hi Eason Zhou,

I created a function to read 4 bytes of data from Info memory. and I am able to read successfully from the adress 0x1800 (Info Memory)

Then I changed the address to 0x1200 (BSL memory). but when I change the adress to BSL memory, read is failing. if no data is written in BSL, when I read I expected to read 0xFF. but the system is hanged.

I updated my linker file to include bsl memory as below
