MSP432 next revision with fixed errata

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP432WARE

The MSP432 series looks really great, and I was planning to use it in my next project but the errata looks too big.

When TI plans to release another revision of the chip that will have most of the issues fixed?

Thanks

  • Hi mitaka,
several errata that you currently find in the experimental silicon erratasheet will be addressed in the production version of the silicon. TI plans to release the production version next year.

  • Is it possible to narrow down the date of the production version of silicon a little? Maybe a specific quarter you expect to start shipping? "Next Year" covers a wide amount of time!

    Regards,

    Josh Adler

  • Yes, I'd like a more specific date as well.

We've currently designed a few boards with this processor--sooner would be better than later.
  • HI all,

thank you for your interests in MSP432 MCU! Happy to hear that you are already actively evaluating MSP432 for your products. Late 2Q2016 is the tentative schedule for MSP432P401R mass production.

    Thanks,

    Dung

  • This helps--Thank you.
  • This morning on "e2e.ti.com/.../new-year-s-deal-msp432-launchpad-for-4-32" I was told "later 2016".
Is late 2Q2016 still the tentative schedule ?
If so, when you say production release, what does that mean exactly: datasheet released ? availability on ti store or major distributor ? all packages available ?

  • Did you get any answers to your question on 7th Jan 2106? Like you I am hanging out for a date when I can get small quantities (100+)

    Thanks

    Peter
  • Hi, at work we are in discussion with our local TI rep currently in order to grab something 50 parts in mid march 100 in june for a MSP432P401RIPZ LFQP package. Last time we talk with him, it seemed feasible.

If you're looking for BGA package, that seems to be not before last quarter and local rep had no info if it would require silicon die rev.

  • Hi

Thanks for that. It is a little more positive and the package matches my requirements. I will also check with the TI rep here..

  • Hi Dung,

Can you post an update on MSP432P401R mass production? When will it be available on digikey?

    Thanks!

    --Adam
  • Hi Adam,
our current plan is that MSP432P401R and MSP432P401M in 100-pin PZ will be released to production next month, 06/2016. You should be able to order from digikey at that point.

  • It is middle of June already and we still have not heard any news from TI regarding the commercial launch of this product.

I have, as many others, invested a lot of time evaluating it and passing back feedback. I have even paid for a license of an RTOS configured for it.  TI should at least show the respect to inform us what is going on. The way how all of this was managed is very disappointing.

Please avoid any patronizing, shu-shu response. Facts only, please.

    Pibe

  • Sorry for a "mee too" response but my company is about to re-evaluate our processor choice and move away from the MSP432 as there is no clear information as to when this will go into production. As a software engineer is would really like to use this part and stay within the Ti ecosystem as I am familiar with Code Composer Studio and the APIs for the MSP430 range.

Please can anyone in the know enlighten us as to when this part will be in full prroduction and not just a "preview" part?

But this also means that there is still half of the month left.

  • Dennis, I can see how easy you accumulate points in e2e. BTW, I've just added 5 to my account for saying nothing useful too.

If you don't like the answers in this forum which is open to everyone, you don't have to read them and you do not need to be rude for no reason.

I quite agree that TI roadmap has been obscure. Anyway we managed to grab around 200 of the experimental msp432 and that is fine for us for now (low volume production). We are still waiting for the BGA ..

Maybe TI should spend a bit less time spamming about new products and a bit more advertising about their roadmaps, delays, etc..

  • Does anybody from TI has anything to say about this topic?

Those not knowing and just looking for an opportunity to make silly comments please refrain (or deal with the natural response in these cases).

    Pibe

  • Hi Pibe & everyone,

Thank you for choosing MSP432 MCU, we appreciate your interest and patience evaluating our new MCU platform! TI is in the final stages of ramping MSP432P401RIPZ to full production capacity, scheduled for 3Q2016. To help you get ready for your production, we are also releasing final sample revision, documentation, software and LaunchPads very shortly so you can build up your final prototype and update your application software. In preparation, please refer to the "Moving From Evaluation to Production With MSP432P401x MCUs" Application Report, which highlights numerous improvements made to the production silicon and how to leverage these benefits in your final application.

    Regards,

    Dung

  • Hi Dung,

Any news for the BGA version ?

Could TI make an official statement about their planning ?

    Thanks,

    Jean-Michel

  • Hi Jean-Michael,
the 80-pin BGA package will be released later on this year in 4Q2016.
    Regards,
    Dung
  • it looks like at the moment neither mass production nor samples are available. We have run out of  few samples we got got few months ago and we are in trouble for our project. We have 4 PCB prototypes ready, but no 432!. Does anyone have idea about mass production schedule or where it is possible to get or purchase samples?

    Thanks!

    GCalc.

That's bad! I have one sealed XMS432P401RIPZR I could send you.

    Dennis

  • Hi Carlos,
we are ramping up new samples inventory (Rev. C silicon) to replace XMS Rev. B material that has been available since last year. The inventory with revision C will be available by the end of this month. In addition to new samples, we have also released documentation, software, and MSP432 LaunchPad all updated for Revision. C/production material.

    Updated documentation: www.ti.com/product/MSP432P401R
Moving from XMS Rev. B to production guide: www.ti.com/.../slaa700
    MSP432Ware: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html
    MSP432 LaunchPad: store.ti.com/msp-exp432p401r.aspx

Once all pieces are in place, MSP432 will be ready for production.

    Regards,
    Dung
