MSP 430f5438a "fatal error could not find device" problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5438A, MSP430F5438

Hello, I'm using MSP430f5438a. After many times I used it, the controller has stopped working and on IAR I see the following message: "fatal error could not find device (or device not supported) session aborted".

The "power" led on the power supply is off, therefore I'm afraid I might burn something there. I'd like to know how can I check that, or if there is any other solution.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

Could be a problem with the device or with the FET tool (debugger). Which EVM are using?? And also which FET tool are you using??

    Thanks,

    David
  • I'm using "Texas Instrument USB-IF" connection, MSP-FET430UIF.

And if I get it right, I'm using MSP430F5438 EVM (I'm not sure about the EVM meaning).

    Thanks a lot

  • Hi,

Sorry for the confusion, EVM stands for Evaluation Module.

Could you please check your IAR Debug Options??

I'm getting the same error as you did (Fatal error: Could not find device) if I select the Spy-Bi-wire as the debug protocol. So please make sure you select 4-Wire or Manual Selection.

If this is configured correctly, could you please download/install FET-Pro430 and see if you can read the firmware on you FET tool (go to Tools > Read MSP-FET430UIF) , this might us an idea on where the problem is.

      Regards,

       David

  • Thanks for the reply,

I'm on automatic mode, I'll also attach a picture of it so you can see other configurations

    Thanks
