MSP430F5131: Problem with downloading the program to the MCU

Hello ,

once i try downloading the program to the MCU (by clicking on debug and download button) i get the error :

i think i connected the MSP-FET emulator correctly to the MSP430.

Hi,

Could you please describe your hardware setup? Are you using a target board, or your own custom board? And are you using JTAG, SBW, etc?

Hi ,

i am using a custom board that we designed .

I also use SBW connection to the MSP FET.

I already made sure that the MSP430 gets voltage its needed (above 1.8V) - so the MSP-FET supposed to find the target device.

A little background of the board :

The board is for GPS purposes , it suppposed to supply a good pulse ( 1Hz pulse) and a bad pulse ( 0.5Hz pulse) depends on various conditions.

I tried to download the code through code composer and IAR embedded ( i encountered the same error).6014.updated electrical drawing.pdf

i attached an electrical schematic of the board.

Hi,

Could you please check your project properties to make sure that the project is set for the correct device (MSP430F5131)?

The previous engineer who designed that custom board is no longer here - it used to work properly exactly the way he designed it and i am just trying to download the program i have written into that msp430 and encounter the same error over and over again...

Hi,

It is possible that the incorrect device is selected in the properties, and this would cause the error that you are seeing. Please check to see if this is the case.

the full part number of my MSP is MSP430F5131IDAR.

Hi,

Looking at your schematic, it does not appear that you have the SBW set up correctly for an MSP430F5xx device. Please see the following page for guidance, and please make sure you are using the correct connections for the device that you are using.

Omer,

Try to configure your project.
For IAR, you must check

1. Options>>General Options>>Target>>Select Device - MSP430F5131
2. Options>>Debugger>>Setup>>Driver - FET Debugger
3. options>>FET Debugger>>Setup>>Debug Protocol - Automatic Selection (or Manual Selection - Spy-Bi-Wire)

After selection try to "rebuild all". If there is no error, program should be downloaded to MSP430.

hello ,

my options are already configured that way ...

after rebuilding all i get no error...and it still pops up that error over and over again...

what could be the problem?

Hi,

This appears to be an issue with you JTAG hardware setup. Please see the following link to make sure that you have set things up correctly for SBW: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../JTAG_(MSP430)
