CCS/MSP-FET: Could not set device VCC error

Part Number: MSP-FET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6972,

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

HI,

I am using CCS 7.0.0 and MSP-FET serial number 17xxxx to debug MSP430FR6972 on a custom board.

Whenever I start the debug session, I get a Couldnt set device VCC error. However, if I use an MSP-FET430UIF with serial number 11xxxxxx I am able to debug perfectly on the same board.

Is there a setting in CCS that needs to be changed or drivers that need to be installed?

  • Hi,

thanks for reaching out to us.
Could you please share how your custom board is supplied? Also, how do you connect the MSP-FET, do you plug it to an on board connector or do you sky wire it?
One thing you could try is downloading the latest version of CCS to see if this then indicates that a firmware update for your MSP-FET is needed. This is something I've seen before and could solve your issue.
Meanwhile let me investigate other possible root causes.

    Thanks and best regards,
    Britta
  • The board is supplied from the MSP-FET and it is connected to a 6-pin connector on my board.

I also noticed that I can flash my board with the MSP-FET using FET Pro430 flasher. Just the debugging with the CCS doesnt work. I will try the new CCS version.
  • Thanks for the details.
Please let me know if upgrading to the latest CCS version changes the outcome of your test.

    Best regards,
    Britta
