Programming with MSP-EXP430FR5739

Part Number: MSP430G2553
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR5739, MSP-EXP430FR5969

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I try to programm a MSP430G2553 with the MSP-EXP430FR5739. But CCS (windows version) says:

MSP430: Trouble Writing Memory Block at 0xffde on Page 0 of Length 0x4: Could not communicate with FET
MSP430: File Loader: Verification failed: Could not write 0xFFDE: target is not connected
MSP430: GEL: File: C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\Code\MSP430\msp430g2xx3_1.c\Debug\msp430g2xx3_1.c.out: Load failed.

Then I used the MSP-EXP430FR5969 wich works fine, so the target hardware is ok. But why is the other LaunchPad not working?

  • How are you connecting the MSP430G2553 to the MSP-EXP430FR5739?

  • Per "MSP Debuggers Users Guide" (SLAU647L) Table 1, the FET on the MSP-EXP430FR5739 can only program the FR57 series and a few random others.

I vaguely recall that this board came out before the upgradeable ezFET was invented, though it did post-date the G2 Launchpad.

CCS could have been a bit more graceful telling you about it.

[Edit: The table also says that the F5529 Launchpad can only program the F552x series, but I used to carry one around to program (at least) F2/G2 and i2 series devices. Luck of the draw I guess.]
