RTOS/MSP430FR5994: MSP430: AutoRun: Target not run as the symbol "main" is not defined

Part Number: MSP430FR5994
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR5994

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

I have searched the forms and looked for a resolution to the issue that TI-RTOS empty project examples for the MSP-EXP430FR5994 launch pad will not correctly load using the latest compiler version that comes with the newest Code Composer Studio Version 9.10 .  I am able to get this working per the form suggestion to revert to an older compiler.

The latest comelier version at the time of this writing is:

TI v18.12.2.LTS

The one that works for me is as follows.

TI v16.9.7.LTS

It is important for my work to have the latest compiler fixes in the projects.

Is there any way to get RTOS working in a project with the latest compiler version? I.e. does anyone know the root cause of this problem?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Steve S.

  • Hello Steve,

I'm not very familiar with the TI-RTOS tools but this seems to be a known issue. For now, I'd recommend that you continue using the TI v16.9.7 compiler.

  • Thanks for the reply, I hadn't found the known issues list since the one in the documentation leads to this link.

    Known Issues
•Please check the TI-RTOS Support Wiki for issues found after this product was released.

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI-RTOS_Support   - this link does not appear to have the same issue list.

At least others can see that the issues list in the docs is incomplete.

The v. 16 compiler has a number of issues - I was digging further the documentation indicates that the TI-RTOS can be compiled with a different compiler and tool set.

I until someone responds with a way to do this or TI releases a new version of TI-RTOS that fixes this, I think this thread should stay open.

For those who wish to seek other RTOS options due to the bugs, I found this link which has some useful MSP430 RTOS solutions.

  • Hi Steve,

We are in the processing of removing the processors.wiki link you mentioned and routing users to the download page.

We have stopped new TI-RTOS (and SYS/BIOS) development on MSP430. While we still support it, we are not doing new features for it. We classify supporting newer versions of compilers as a new feature. So unfortunately, your only options are stick with v16 of the compiler or dig into the newer compiler issue yourself.

  • Thanks

My only option is migrating away from TI-RTOS - I really liked the tools and integration into CSS.

Sad to see TI giving up on this RTOS for MSP430.  Maybe you will do something new for MSP430 -

Options look like Salvo, Micrium, ecos... etc.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Steve S.
