MSP430F47127: Code Secure Option in UNIFLASH v6.1.0.

I am using MSP430F47127 for our meter products.

To program them in production we are planning to use UNIFLASH v6.1.0.

We want to know if the Code secure option given in this version will provide security to our codes and can it be deployed in production lines.

If yes, what level of security will it provide.

Hello Leo,

As the document suggests multiple ways of securing the device, by Hardware fuse blow or e fuse blow, etc, which operation is used by Uniflash to secure the device.

Hi Selec,

We typically direct folks to use Elprotronics: https://www.elprotronic.com/products/fet-pro-430-lite with our MSP FET programmer or our MSP GANG programmer: https://www.ti.com/store/ti/en/p/product/?p=MSP-GANG when going to production programming. Although there may be support for this with Uniflash via the command line interface, the documentation for the Uniflash command line interface appears to be down right now(I'll check into this separately).

Common security features for our MSP products include JTAG password and fuse protection. There are also password protected commands for BSL which are described in section 3.6 of https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau319ad/slau319ad.pdf .

As an alternative you could also use our MSP430 FLasher utilitiy. Section 7.4 of the user's guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau654e/slau654e.pdf describes how to secure a device.

Can we use Uniflash software as the MSP Flasher itself is saying that the Unifash is same with a GUI based alternative ?

Please help to conclude.

AFAIK, MSP-Flasher is open source CLI, Uniflash is not open source and it is without CLI.

MSP430F4xx is with hardware JTAG fuse (blown only once by 6.5V supplied by master device). It can be blown (almost) with any TI software tool.

If there is no "something special" about this device (that can be found in device datasheet), and it is typical F4xx member, than after JTAG fuse is blown, only option left for firmware access is BSL with correct password (vector space).
