DRV8300: 3Phase MOSFET Driver

Part Number: DRV8300

Dear Support,

We are facing problem with the new design based on DRV8300 for Brushless DC Motor ESC.

The DRV8300 is interfaced with the STM32F051 and BL Heli firmware. The motor runs smoothly at low rpm though at very initial starting duration it looks unstable but then starts working normally.

Range of PWM= 1000 - 2000

from the above mentioned range, the ESC is able to drive the BLDC up to 1130 pwm rate. After that it becomes unstable. We have captured some waveforms and are expecting if you can guide us in pointing out the problem area.

Attached waveforms for your reference.

Anmol

  • Hi Anmol,

Is the unstable region periodic over continuous operation or does it just happen this one occurrence? What duty cycle are the PWMs operating at in this waveform? How are the gate waveforms behaving (GHx, GLx) with respect to the motor output waveforms? Can you share the schematic of the DRV8300 and powerstage?

My guess is the bootstrap capacitors cannot supply enough gate voltage to the high side FETs and therefore the phase outputs stop turning on. Ensure the bootstrap caps and GVDD cap are placed as close as possible to the DRV8300 IC and the GVDD cap is rated for at least 10x the BSTx-SHx cap rating so GVDD can be supplied to high side MOSFET gates at higher duty cycles.

    Thanks,
    Aaron
