TLV751: current limitation tlv75101P

Part Number: TLV751

We are using a TLV75101P with an input voltage of about 5.3V and dual 5V output voltage in our application.

To test the current limitation, we connect a power resistor with about 5 Ohms to one output of the TLV75101P and observe the output current.
The recorded output current (Oscilloscope and current probe) rises up to 1.1A and then sinks to a limit of 700mA.
According to the datasheet (SBVS385B –DECEMBER 2019–REVISED APRIL 2020), the maximum output current shall be 865mA.

My question is whether this current overshoot (more than 865mA) is normal behavior, or whether the voltage regulator is defective

Sorry for my late reply.

Sorry for my imprecise wording. The controller is in operation with 500mA output current. The connected load is then slowly increased and we observe that the TLV delivers up to 1.1A of current. Only from approx. 1.2A does the TLV limit the output current to approx. 700mA.

Hi Thomas,

I will reach out one of my colleagues to verify if the part is working correctly.

When you place the part in a constant 1A load, does it ever trigger the current limit?

Has this part been used outside of the rated Thermal Junction limitations?

Have any of the pins been accidentally shorted together?

would you be able to confirm the markings on the top of the package?

If the part is working in all other respects, maybe the 1A version of this part was installed on your board. Otherwise, we will need to start the return process.
